Our Blog

So Far
It's been 3 years now, we moved house, had twins, got our permanent residency and we've cried - a lot - wanted to go home, wanted to stay for ever. You are going to read about a roller-coaster ride that hasn't stopped.

This is the story of our journey, please comment or ask questions via the comments. I will answer them all.
If you're moving to Auckland buy "Where to Live in Auckland," there's a link on the left. It is invaluable.

Regards and Good Luck

Going Home

I am sorry that I have not posted for a while but big changes in our lives and I'd have felt a fraud with all that was going on! We are returning to the UK, a permanent move. It was a very hard decision but a number of factors coincided and the choice was made.

Our parents are not getting any younger and it gets harder to know we are denying them a relationship with the children.

The School year is about to start in the UK and so it was a timing issue about if we were ever going back.

I had a great Job offer, you can read about it here, it will mean a real opportunity for me and the family.

We'll be sad to leave the country and lifestyle and even sadder to leave our friends and family.

I'll write a bit more as we get closer to moving. Then I think I'll probably have to write about something else! I would like to thank all of you for the comments and support over the last 3 years. I have really enjoyed writing this blog and have met some great people on line.

For now cheers.

Jonathan

Best wishes on a smooth move with your young family. I have to say a little part of me is envious. Though I love day-to-day life here in NZ there isn't a day that passes when thoughts of my loved ones in the UK don't fill my heart. Whenever we're reunited there is a feeling of such completeness. The last time we were together our children really connected with their Grandparents. It's such a special relationship and I know, even with technology, our children do miss out (as do the Grandparents). We've been here ten year's now; but I would love to consider a move back for a couple of years - just to give it a go. Perhaps we will.

All the very, very best. It's been great meeting you in 'cyber space' and I've really enjoyed sharing your adventure.

Make sure you enjoy those wonderful beer gardens when you get back!

Cheers, Sarah

Sorry and happy for you all at the same time! - Nothing in life is forever or fixed in stone. The world is becoming a smaller place and who knows what the future holds for any of us. I guess you have to live for the moment - I know that's always worked for us. It sounds like a fantastic job opportunity and I'm sure you'll all have a great time back in Blighty!

Looks like we'll be heading out to NZ around the same time your heading back - strange how things keep on moving around in the great cosmic confusion of it all.

Seriously - have a great trip back. You know that you'll always have friends in NZ to come back and visit. If it wasn't for you we would not have met Mike & Marrisa and Dan and Sarah - Forever indebted.

Live long and prosper!

As a family who were at one point considering moving to NZ and still may do sometime your blog provided a balanced view i thought - not all positive, so realistic and gave things to think over and consider which was good, well at least in the uk you will have lots of cheap books to purchase!!! would be interesting to know what you missed about nz, presumably the weather and relaxed vibes?? my friend from oz thinks its basically pot luck if u settle somewhere, she has in melbourne which surprised me, anyway cheers for sharing u thoughts on the NZ move....... I thank you all for the lovely comments. We are sad to be going and I'll be lost without such an obvious blog subject!

Part of emigrating is the sense of kinship with other who follow, are following or have followed the same path, I'll miss that. My love and very best to you all.
